2026
This were a Daily Telegraph-article-inspired pome wot I writ on Thursday evening, in first-draft form...
Twas tidied up a little on Friday morning - then finished to apparent satisfaction late inth afternoon - and then finished to more complete satisfaction upon my return from A&E on Saturday 14 February 2026...
And as, no-doubt, some will declare, not much was perhaps cookin' in me personal kitchen, ath time, eh (a Crowded House reference btw) :-) :-) :-) ...
So anyway, without further a'do, here it is, laid bare, for all to witness...
No Valentine's Days
We arranged to meet at the village fete...
You weren't too pleased when I was late...
Not a smart move for a first date...
But your attraction to me over-rode your doubts...
Apparently seen as favourable to the local village louts...
With me thinking you were, perhaps, better than nowt...
The years passed by and our ardour grew...
And before we knew it there was an extra two...
Then sometime after, another was due...
When time did come they flew the nest...
All headed off towards the west...
Leaving us both on our self-acclaimed laurels to rest...
But for each of those years there wasn't a card...
Nor associated words from a famous bard...
Not even a picked flower fromth back yard...
For we were practical people, that's for sure...
Hard working, and obeying the law...
Even though we remained quite poor...
But then came the year the farm we did sell...
Releasing ourselves from our non-idyllic dell...
A little before the tolling of our mutual bell...
By me - as you can see - and tis free :-) :-) :-) …
Note...
The Daily Telegraph article's title, earlier alluded to, is as follows btw - 'Stuck for a Valentine’s message? These electrifying love letters show how it’s done' ...
...With the website address details being as follows, also - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/02/12/messages-for-valentines-day-love-letters/ …
